After organizing, leading, staffing, any of the business organizations there is a need to be controlling. So controlling is the type of function of management that is most important for any managerial manager. So, let’s discuss deeply the essential function of the theory of control.
Control is a primary goal-oriented function of management in any business organization. It ensures that the right things are done in the right manner at the right time. It is monitoring and correction of comparing the actual performance with the set standards of the business organization to ensure that activities are performed according to the plans and if not then taking corrective action. In order to seek planned results from the subordinates, every manager needs to monitor and evaluate the activities of their subordinates.
In other words, the meaning of controlling function of management can be defined as ensuring that activities in any business organization are performed as per the plans. Controlling also ensures that a business organization’s resources are being used efficiently and effectively for the achievement of its targeted goals.
Theo Haimann and William G. Scott define the meaning of control, “Controlling is the process which checks performance against standards. It makes sure that organizational goals and objectives are being met.”
The theory of control defines Koontz and O’Donnell, “The managerial function of controlling is the measurement and correction of the performance of activities of subordinates in order to make sure that enterprise objectives and the plans devised to attain them are being accomplished.”

So controlling is clearly defined control is most important in any of the fields like an educational institution, military, hospital, & club as in any business organization.
Therefore, controlling is that type of function that should not be to identify wrong as the last function of management. It is important to function in any business organization which can bring the management cycle back to the planning function.
